This Giveaway has already ended. Find out What Happened and Who Won: Winners of Our Facebook 1000 ‘Likes’ Milestone Freebie Giveaway
It’s nearly been a month since iPad Malaysia Labs first launched to give you the best source of iPad news, event coverage, tutorials, guides, and more catering specifically for iPad users in Malaysia. From the start we wanted some elements of this site to be a friendly local community resource where everyone is free to gain, share and contribute knowledge regardless of whether you just recently bought the iPad 2 as your first Apple gadget or if you’re a raving mad Apple fanboy.
If you’ve followed closely with us or at least managed to explore our site thoroughly, you would have noticed that the community aspect is alive and well in the form of our Facebook Page.
We had a shot when it hit 1000 exactly but we seem to have deleted it
We recently passed the 1000 ‘Likes’ Milestone and we thought it’d be cool to give out some freebies. Just because you’re awesome.
This is Part 2 of the US iTunes Store Access Series. Go here to read Part 1 – How to Create a US Apple ID.
What happens when you get sick of all the free content and decide that you’d like to buy a song or movie from the US iTunes Store? We assume that you are obviously still somewhere in a US coffee shop (just to be sure you’re not flouting any of the iTunes Store Terms & Conditions) but darn it, this time you don’t have a US credit card. Any credit cards from outside of the US will not work in the US iTunes Store.
US iTunes Gift Cards
What Are They?

In short, they are gift cards that you can use to redeem US iTunes Store credits with your new US Apple ID. The cards are usually available in the following denominations:
- $15, $25, $50, $100 (in USD)
Typically, you would buy a nice physical card like the one pictured above and give it away as a ‘hip’ Christmas or birthday present to someone. However, for our purpose we’re going to do away with all niceties and just focus on getting the redemption code.
If you’ve ever wondered why you can’t get movies or songs from iTunes or why there are error messages when you try to get certain apps for your iPad, it is because we in Malaysia are using a “Malaysia” Apple ID by default which we showed you how to do here. This ID only allows us access to the Malaysia iTunes Store which has different content from the US version of the store.
It’s quite annoying. Kind of like when YouTube doesn’t allow you to watch certain videos because you live outside of the US.
What’s in the US iTunes Store?
What are we missing out on? A LOT.
Music! Movies! iTunes! Compare the screenshot above with the current iTunes app on your iPad and spot the differences.
- Content Variety – Regional restrictions mean that most commercial media content are only available in the US such as movies, TV series, songs, music videos, etc. You will also be able to get apps like Kindle or Pandora that similarly provide content that is restricted outside of the US.
- More FREE Content – There are always weekly free content to be downloaded ranging from sample songs to TV show 1st episode giveaways.
- Promo/Coupon Codes – You can get discounts and special offers by using coupon codes.
Ok great so how do you create a US Apple ID? Hang on just one moment. Creating a US Apple ID when you’re not based in the US is against the iTunes Store’s Terms and Conditions.
Rules are rules.
But hey; let’s assume you’re on a long working holiday in the US or you travel there quite frequently.
Instructions: Create a “US” Apple ID Without a Credit Card
You will need an active Internet Connection so turn on Wi-Fi or 3G/Data and make sure your iPad is connected.
On your iPad, open “Settings” from the Home Screen.
Our Prime Minister has an iPad to update tweets before going to bed. Norway Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg runs his country using one.
What is the Queen of England going to do with hers?

Apparently very impressed after a demonstration by her grandsons Princes William and Harry, the Queen ordered staff to buy her an iPad. A royal insider said: “The Princes think it is hilarious. They love the fact that their gran wants an iPad and think she’s really cool.”
She was particularly taken with how easy it was to use, the large screen and how light it was. She thinks it will be great to keep her entertained on all the long trips she has to make.
We can almost picture the 85 year old monarch playing Angry Birds on the way to a royal visit.
Do you think if she likes the iPad enough that Steve Jobs will finally get a knighthood this time?
